Pikes Peak Celebrates 200 Years

The Seattle Times covers an awesome happening this year surrounding the 14,110-foot summit along the eastern slopes of the Rockies known as Pikes Peak in Colorado. As a teen living in Colorado Springs I never gave a whole lot of thought to the beauty or the story behind ole Pikes Peak.

Hotels to Smell Like Pie

A sour-sewage reek whose malodorous molecules still haunt my olfactory cortex to this day. This is all very clever, and those who orchestrated this campaign are obviously aware that they are dealing in primitive grey matter, that it is our olfactory cortex that is the oldest and in some ways most powerful sense.

Hey, I'm not going name any names here, but let's just say that I've had a few conversations with folks in the New York media world who tell me that those fancy "Top Hikes in the West" pieces are often cobbled together by interns who do their reporting on the Web. Again, no names, but this is what I hear.

Summer at the Ski Resorts

This piece in CNN takes a look at what some of the resorts are doing this summer to provide opportunities for mountain bikers, campers, fisher folk, golfers, horseback riders, et al. The piece covers most of the big ski states like Colorado, Utah and California and does justice to most of the areas providing this kind of fun.
